Unreal sight seen on October 8, 2005. A client of ours had a shed outside of his business for many years. When we first came into contact with this client, this shed had several old broken down games. Over time, we have been repairing the games, and once each game was repaired, it had been brought into his place of business. We were almost done with this job, narrowing the remaining repair jobs down to just two games. Then mother nature hit. ![]() A strong cold front came through this area on a 103 degree day. The result was a short-lived but very powerful thunderstorm with straight-line winds upward of 80 mph. It totally destroyed the shack, actually lifting it out of the cement as you can see on the bottom right corner. How are the games you ask? So did we... as we were called to take a look at them. ![]() Shot from where the front door used to be. Contents of the entire shack are strewn everywhere. ![]() There they are... Tempest and Moon Patrol seem to live, though the doors are off and lots of debris are inside of them. Moon Patrol seems to be leaning, so we went to check for cabinet damage... ![]() Holy smokes! The support beam of a loft from above the games is laying on the Moon Patrol. The Moon Patrol is tilted to the right, but standing strong. This cabinet is actually ALL that is holding up the entire shack! Looking at all previous support beams in the structure, nothing is still attached or holding anything up. This Williams classic is now a load bearing video game. ![]() A close-up of the top of the game. The marquee bracket is bent a little bit, and the marquee is warped but somehow not cracked. ![]() Close-up of the base of the cabinet. The cabinet is tilted and it seems a corner will need some work upon clean-up of the debris, but this thing is solidly in there... holding up an entire building at this point! ![]() Another good shot of the Moon Patrol that saved the day! Notice on the right you can see sunlight. That's where the base of the building actually got ripped out of the concrete! ![]() Another top pic. Note that the Moon Patrol cabinet's ability to hold up the remnants of this building actually might have saved the Tempest cabinet in front of it, as the loft is only inches from landing on it. ![]() Shot from the outside where the base of the building was ripped from the ground. You see the bottom of the Moon Patrol doing it's job as an impromptu building support! ![]() Moon Patrol as seen from what used to be a window. Thank you Moon Patrol for saving the Tempest and other items inside! Only a super hero could have held up a falling building as well as you. Following this event, the remains of the building were demolished, but the two games were pulled out and brought inside the main business building. Moon Patrol suffered no real damage and was brought up to working condition soon thereafter. If not for the small dent in the marquee bracket you could never tell this happened. Tempest was not so lucky. The base of the cabinet suffered water damage on this event and even worse water damage later as the area where it was stored in the main building suffered a small flood. It is currently still in storage to this day. ![]() Website Content © 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 Hyperspace Arcade Entertainment.
